Malmo - Bringing it All Back Home

So regular readers of the blog will know that Wendy and I spent four years living in Finland.  During that time we made two visits to Stockholm, but had never seen any other parts of Sweden.  I have been lucky enough to spend some time wandering the city streets of Malmo.

In fact yesterday afternoon found me walking all the way from seemingly one side of town to the other to check out the MFF (Malmo) stadium.  Sadly the photos did not turn out as it was 5:20 by the time I arrived.  But what is fascinating is that when they built the new stadium (very modern I might add) they kept the old stadium standing.  And they are both something to behold -

Shamelessly borrowed from the world-wide infoweb

And you come that far, you have to have something to show for it -

The city itself is beautiful.  Beautiful old buildings in the old town area, and exciting, modern new construction in the rapidly growing tech/start-up sectors.

It is a very "walkable" city, as these urban ducks would surely attest -

But fear not, there were watches as well.  We will have more about Kronaby this coming week, but I wanted to try and finds some older local flavor.  And I did!

According to Per Eklund who I met at Antikurmakaren just off the main shopping street, this is a pretty much 100% Swedish watch.  While many watches were cased in Sweden, 100% "down-home" Swedish watches (movement, etc.) are fairly thin on the ground.  Next time your in Malmo, check him out!

So one more day - I am off to Ystad to see where Wallander lived, then off home tomorrow.  Enjoy your watches - and enjoy your city - wherever it is!
