Gully, a French art lover and
graffiti artist, creates contemporary art that has a special twist. Inspired by
art masters and legends, such as Canaletto, Hopper, Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, Rockwell
or Os Gemeos, he remodels and incorporates parts of their art into his
paintings. Considered as a tribute, Gully makes the icons meet in his paintings
and creates a dazzling blend and synergy of various styles in his pieces of
art. His work is considered rare, as he produces very little. And so is he, a
mysterious artist, never appearing at the openings since he remains anonymous.
“Just like Daniel Jeanrichard, pioneer and artist of
his time in the 17th century, Gully is also a very inventive and
curious adventurer within his field of expertise. And the story behind the
Graphiscope collection is the result of exactly such inspiration”, said Bruno
Grande, Managing Director of JEANRICHARD. “Gully has been a Friend of the Brand
for a while and when he was working on painting a new canvas, he splashed his
Terrascope with several colors - and this is how an additional piece of art emerged
and the idea for the new ‘Graphiscope’ limited edition
series was born.”
The JEANRICHARD “Graphiscope” collection will be three
limited editions of 25 pieces each of a variation of the JEANRICHARD Terrascope
watch that are signed by Gully. They will be revealed at Opera Gallery in Paris
on 19 September 2014 and the exhibition will last until 11 October 2014. Founded by Gilles Dyan, in 1994,
Opera Gallery Group, which includes eleven galleries throughout the world (in
the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East), is celebrating this year
its 20th anniversary.
“For my creations, I normally pay tribute to the emblems
of the Art Scene – especially the ones I consider to be my mentors, and I make
them meet each other in my pieces of art”, said Gully. “For JEANRICHARD, time
is a Philosophy of Life and I make my art, my Philosophy of Life. Thus,
together we created an encounter, a true blend of street art and time. We
united the art of watchmaking with urban street art, two universes very
different from one another yet at the same time very special and out of the
ordinary.”
